Latics beat beat Bristol Rovers to win their first game of the season at the Memorial Stadium.
The victory lifts Oldham off the bottom and ends an eleven game run without a victory. Oldham had not won a game since beating Bolton Wanderers at the end of last season.
Eoin Doyle headed home to secure the points in a 3 -2 victory after Bristol Rovers had fought back to 2-2 after Latics had gone into a two nil lead.
Oldham had taken the lead just three minutes into the second half as Byrne gathered the ball about 25 yards out from Rovers’ goal and unleashed a shot from outside the box Oldham then went into a two nil lead 20 minutes from time as Craig Davies turned on the edge of the box and ball squeezed the ball inside the near post.
It was a great relief in the end for Latics after a frantic last 10 minutes.
