On loan Fulham centre half Cameron Burgess scored an early opener to put Latics ahead after 10 minutes but Oxford dominated the second half and equalised after 54 minutes.

Oldham  were then  reduced to 10 men four minutes after the Oxford equaliser when Ousmane Fane fouled Marvin Johnson and was sent off for his second yellow card. And later, the Oxford manager and a member of Oldham's coaching staff were both sent from the dug-out after an altercation over a over a booking.
