Oldham stages Tour of Britain

Oldham hosted Stage One of the Tour of Britain on Sunday 3rd September.

100 of the world’s top professional cyclists made their way through Saddleworth, Shaw and Crompton.

Working with the Tour of Britain organisers, Oldham Council is supportedlocal activities in High Crompton Park and Shaw's George Street Skate Park.

The “Grand Depart” went through all the boroughs of Greater Manchester beginning in Altrincham then Stockport and Tameside.

From there, riders entered Oldham via Greenfield, past Uppermill, Dobcross and Delph before taking on a steep incline up to Grains Bar.

The race then wound it’s way into Shaw, via Crompton, before entering Rochdale and passing the outskirts of Bury and Bolton.

Racers will then made there way into Manchester via Wigan and Salford before reaching the finish line on Deansgate.

Greater Manchester is the first of eight stages in the race, with other sections including areas of Essex, Gloucester, Cheshire, East Riding, Suffolk, Nottinghamshire and Wales.
