Local residents across Oldham took to social media to comment on a ear shattering noise earlier this morning.
It turned out to be the demolition of the Hobson Street car park in Oldham town centre, which was demolished in a controlled explosion by demolition workers from DSR Demolition.

Residents living nearby were told of the demolition in advance but the operation wasn’t widely publicised to prevent large numbers of spectators. Those that had attended let out gasps of amazement and the noise set off car alarms and sent alrge clouds of smoke into the atmosphere.

The car park was closed in 2014 after serious structural damage and Surveys later confirmed the 1960s structure was beyond economic repair.
