Oldham residents are being urged to take advantage of a money-saving boiler and insulation offer.

The Greater Manchester Energy Heroes scheme has now been extended until 31 March 2017. Qualifying households get free or discounted new boilers and home insulation that could save hundreds of pounds from fuel bills.

The ten Greater Manchester local authorities have joined forces with E.ON to run the scheme, which it is estimated could help more than 30,000 homes in Greater Manchester which are struggling to keep warm and pay their fuel bills this winter. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and the NHS are supporting the scheme.

Home owners and private tenants who are on a low income are encouraged to call Freephone 0800 508 8008 to book a free home survey to see if they qualify for free or subsidised works. It is recommended they call by 3 February 2017 to see if they are eligible to have a new efficient boiler installed by the end of March 2017.

Households could save £350 a year by having a new boiler fitted, £70 by insulating their loft and £290 through cavity wall insulation.

The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service are also supporting the scheme by raising awareness of the offer during Safe and Well visits.
