A new scheme is being launched in schools across Oldham this week in a bid to help families struggling in the face of the Cost of Living crisis.
Children North East are visiting 10 local schools and will be talking to children and young people to help identify barriers families fave who are living in poverty. Amongst other things they will be looking at how free school meals are delivered, how uniforms are bought, non-uniform days, present-buying for teachers, the cost of after-school clubs, funding for school trips. Their findings will help train local staff and help find ways to break the link between educational attainment and financial background; poverty often has an adverse impact on wellbeing and future life prospects.
This is part of Oldham Council’s £3m "We Can Help support campaign" helping residents get through these difficult times. It is important
to give Oldham's young people the very best opportunities in life.
