Oldham Roughyeds had to be on their guard to tackle giant-killers when they faced Haydock amateurs, from St Helens, at Bower Fold in the fourth round of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup.
The Haydock club made Challenge cup history by becoming the first team from the eighth tier of rugby league to reach this stage.
They beat Cumbria in round one smashing National Conference premier division side Wath Brow Hornets before knocking out BARLA National Cup holders Thornhill Trojans at home in round two. In the third round they defeated Wests Warriors at the home of London Skolars.
It looked like another upset was on the cards when Haydock scored the first try after successive penalties. Haydock then scored again from the resulting scrum to go 8 - 0 up.
Fortunately Roughyeds got back in the game and Danny Grimshaw scored a try just before the interval to put Oldham in command at half time 20 - 8 up after Haydock's spirited start
In the second half Oldham took full control with a second try for Richard Lepori. Joe Burke added another which was successfully converted to put Roughyeds 32 - 8 up
A further penalty conversion and a great individual try from Kieran Gill, which saw him run from half way to finish sliding over the line saw them finish worethy 40 - 8 winners and book a place in the next round
