Earlier in the year Oldham Council compulsory purchased the disused Grade Two listed building Prudential Assurance Building on Union Street in order to renovate the building into a creative and media hub.
The building will need substantial work doing on it as it has disintegratred into a sorry state. It dates back to 1889 and it is hoped the grand old building will be restored to its former glory as an attactive centrepiece of Oldham town centre.
It is hoped that the process can begin in April 2023 and be concluded in October 2024.
The cost is is estimated to be just under £9m which will come from the Council's capital funds and the Future High Street award.
