Work has started – Oldham Council mark the beginning of the new
enviro-friendly depot

A “ground-breaking” event has taken place in Alexandra Park ahead
of works to build a new environmentally friendly depot. Set to open in
12 months’ time.
Cllr Abdul Jabbar is delighted to mark the beginning of a new
construction after the first ‘spade in the ground’ took place and
the eco centre has commenced. He met at the site with construction
partners Whitfield and Brown Developments.
An environmentally friendly modern working space is set to create a
sustainable hub in the park, for the community. It will be used for
events, education and recreation as well as providing a working space,
for the Environmental Services teams.
The energy efficient building will have air source heating, providing
more sustainable and economical hot water and heat.
Cllr Jabbar said “It was fantastic to celebrate the start of this
project which will deliver huge environmental, economic and social
benefits. As a Green New Deal council, we are absolutely committed to
green energy and tackling the climate challenge in Oldham.”
Construction has already started and is expected to be complete in
winter 2022 and will create 13 new jobs, as well as work placements
and skills opportunities to help young people into work in the area.
This is a fabulous example of how Oldham Council is striving to make
Oldham the greenest borough in Greater Manchester and simultaneously
unlocking opportunities to improve the lives of communities.
