Oldham's Lucy Connell is taking part in Cancer Research UK's Race for Life at the charity's 5K Pretty Muddy event at Heaton Park this saturday after losing her cousin and best friend Kate Connell to cancer in May 2014.
Just a few months after Kate's death she took part in the Race for Life with a group of friends she had met online before being joined by her mum and children for last year's event.
Her friend kate lived in Halifax and was diagnosed with breast cancer in she had been given the all clear after her treatment.
Unfortunately the cancer returned and, despite further chemotherapy treatment, the disease eventually spread and became terminal.
Lucy plans to make it an annual event. Cancer Research UK's Race for Life is in partnership with Tesco and is a women only series of 5k and 10k races. The Pretty Muddy and Marathon events raises millions of pounds every year to help fund life saving research.
