Russel Howarth exhibition at Saddleworth Museum and Art Gallery

Saddleworth Museum and Gallery are hosting their second gallery exhibition displaying the works of Oldham artist Russel Howarth.

Russel Howarth passed away in 2020 and Saddleworth Museum were asked to act on behalf of Russel Howarths estate to ensure the proceeds of the exhibition go towards supporting and helping artists and ceramicists.

Russel Howarth was born in Oldham in 1927 and took up painting in 1950 and was an inaugural member of the Saddleworth Art group, now known as Saddleworth Group of Artists. He also tought pottery at his art classes up until 1962.

Russel is known for his landscapes in oils of Saddleworth on the Yorkshire side of the Pennines, catching the atmosphere and weather of the area perfectly. He also used

pencil and charcoal to do many large drawings.

You can buy one of his amazing works of art at the gallery exhibition which runs from the 21st January to the 12th February at the Community Art Gallery, Saddleworth Museum, High Street, Uppermill (free to view 1 to 4pm daily).
