Allotment competition encourages growing of fruit and vegetables

The OMBC Annual Allotment competition presentations were recently held in the Oldham’s Mayor's Parlour. 

The Allotment presentation's are held every year to celebrate allotment growing across Oldham. There is an increasing awareness of the role that gardening plays in both preventing and alleviating mental ill health. Many people find that will nurturing plants and taking time out in nature makes them feel calmer and more hopeful with many studies corroborating this, and the physical benefits of of gardening also help to enhance physical health.

Allotment growing can produce enough food to help a family's weekly shop, supplying a continuous flow of fresh fruit and vegetables. Allotment gardeners can choose to garden organically and avoid using chemicals that are likely to be present in commercial bought fruit and vegetables.
