Oldham Coliseum Theatre annual new writing festival, First Break, showcases new work from artists and companies from across the North West.
The 2017’s festival will be packed with new writing, emerging companies, rehearsed readings, workshops, established companies and panel discussions with actors, writers and directors.
This is part of a programme to help develop the work of emerging artists and companies from across the area to explore the stories and issues that affect and reflect the local communities.
Four writers will be selected to have their work debuted as part of the First Break Festival.
Successful applicants will benefit in the following ways:

Dramaturgical support, to mentor you through the development of your work
Plays performed by professional actors
Access to tech and studio support
Guidance through the process from page to stage
Networking opportunities with other writers and industry contacts

The social and political landscape of the North West and beyond is constantly changing. Brexit, local regeneration, welfare state, US elections, Toblerones are shrinking; how may these affect the future of you and those around you? What are your predictions for your community in one, two, or five years’ time? Will the North West still be as we know it, or will it be unrecognisable?
Plays should last no longer than 15 minutes and feature a maximum of four characters.

The 2017 First Break Festival takes place from Thursday 22 June to Saturday 1 July 2017
